In his follow-up to the country drama Crazy Heart, director Scott Cooper has assembled a fantastic cast for the hotly anticipated crime feature Out of the Furnace. The film features a cast that includes Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, and Boyd Holbrook. The studio Relativity has now set an official release date of October 4th, 2013, making the film one of the more high profile releases of the fall.
Out of the Furnace is a drama about fate, circumstance, and redemption. Russell (Christian Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.
It’s understandable why Out of the Furnace has been placed on many “Most Anticipated” lists before the release date has even been announced. The tale of brotherly crime has been reported to have similarities to the grittiness of the Oscar-winning film No Country For Old Men. With an October release officially set, perhaps Relativity has an awards contender in their hands.
