Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War has officially completed principal photography and with that news comes the reveal of the film’s plot and cast sheet, which has expanded quite a bit.
Joe and Anthony Russo return as directors, while Chris Evans stars alongside Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Elizabeth Olsen.
In addition, the film brings back Paul Rudd‘s Ant-Man, alongside a welcoming introduction to Chadwick Boseman, Martin Freeman, plus William Hurt‘s return to the MCU.
Boseman plays Black Panther, while Martin Freeman‘s role has yet to be determined.
It’s great to see Hurt, Grillo and the rest of the Avengers return to the fold, plus Stan’s Winter Soldier.
Many are treating Civil War as an Avengers 2.5 of sorts, with Captain America and Iron Man going head-to-head, thus creating a civil war between the current Avengers team.
Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6th, 2016.
The official plot can be read below:
Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
