Back in October, we first reported the rumor that Paul Rudd was in contention for the titular lead role in Marvel’s Ant-Man along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be gearing up to direct and star in his own comic book adaptation, Marvel has confirmed that Paul Rudd is officially Ant-Man.
“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star,” said Marvel‘s Kevin Feige. “We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”
This is a great choice. There’s no doubt that Rudd is a tremendously talented actor. With Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and The World’s End) directing and Rudd in the lead role, it’s clear that this will have a more comedic approach.
Ant-Man will begin Marvel’s Phase Three on July 31st, 2015.
