Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been the front-runner to play Pietro Maximoff, otherwise known as Quicksilver, in Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron since June but nothing was confirmed. Now it’s official. The Wrap reports that the actor has closed a deal with Marvel to appear in the film.
According to the report, the actor was hesitant in closing the deal, as the shooting schedule for the film will overlap his publicity schedule for next summer’s Godzilla but a deal has been worked out so he can do both.
Quicksilver is one of three confirmed Marvel characters that writer and director Joss Whedon will be introducing in the anticipated sequel along with The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Ultron (James Spader).
For those of you who don’t know, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are twins whose father is Magneto from X-Men. The Scarlet Witch has the power to affect certain outcomes by altering probabilities and Quicksilver has superhuman speed.
Taylor-Johnson joins the cast that already includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will arrive in theatres on May 1st, 2015.
