Ghost Rider just might be one of the most disappointing comic book movies to ever hit the big screen. Nic Cage was almost perfect as Johnny Blaze in the second film, titled Spirit of Vengeance, but the first film lacked that dark energy that directors Neveline/Taylor brought to their sequel, which still didn’t deliver where it should have.
Both films have ranged from bad to horrible, with Spirit of Vengeance getting some more points for the well-shot action and general sense of craziness throughout the entire film.
They’ve even made some decent money at the box office. The first one much more than the second.
This means that Sony will most likely look to continue the property, just not with Nic Cage in the leading role.
Cage had this to say about the project when asked about it:
it’s possible, but it won’t be with me. I’ve said what I have to say. I don’t want to say never…anything’s possible. But I doubt, highly, that I would be in a third installment of that.
So there you have it. For now Nicolas Cage won’t be returning in Ghost Rider 3, if they make it. I could see that changing depending on the size of the check they offer him.
