The latest trailer for ParaNorman has hit the net. The animated film, from LAIKA and Focus Features (producers of Coraline) is only the second stop-motion animated film to be made for the 3D format. The synopsis is:
“A misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead, takes on ghosts, zombies and grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse.”
Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is able to speak to the dead, and he must use his skills to save his neighbors from ghosts, zombies, and witches. Much like Coraline, the film features a young character who gets a peek into a dark world, without the protection of his parents or any other adults. Coraline surprised me with its quality and how dark it was, I’m hoping ParaNorman is up the same alley, being entertaining, but still suitable for children, with a dark edge and intelligence that will keep older audiences interested.
