The summer movie season is almost here, with May generally being the kick-starter for the big tent-pole blockbusters. This year we’ve got a ton of comic-book movies, which will most-likely dominate the box office.
First up is Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3, which pits the director with Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Kingsley for Marvel’s first big superhero movie since The Avengers shattered records last summer. I’m eagerly awaiting this one, because I think Black might be exactly what we need to shake up the Iron Man series after Jon Favreau sort of shit the bed with the second film.
Here’s a quick glimpse of Tony Stark’s new suit:
Next up is my most-anticipated movie of the year, Man of Steel. Director Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot promises to be dark and gritty, in the same vein as producer Christopher Nolan‘s Batman films. I’m really hoping Snyder can deliver the goods, especially after the disastrous Sucker Punch. I think teaming him with Nolan is a reassuring gesture, but at the end of the day this is a Snyder film. The trailers have been getting better as we move closer to release. Check out star Henry Cavill locked up in full costume below:
Finally, the last and least-exciting of the bunch is James Mangold‘s The Wolverine. Hugh Jackman returns as the titular character. The first film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was an epic failure, but Fox has gotten their shit together since and went on to make the incredibly strong X-Men: First Class. With that in their pocket and a surplus of good wholesome comic-book movies I’m willing to give this one a chance.
Iron Man 3 opens on May 3rd, 3013. Man of Steel opens on June 14th, 2013 and The Wolverine opens on July 26rd, 2013.
Which are you most looking forward to?
