Is it May yet?
Sony’s upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has received a brand-new extended trailer and I must say that it looks very good. Normally, I’d be a little skeptical about a studio’s sequel cramming in so many villains into one movie (see Spider-Man 3), but this latest trailer does a great job finding balance and keeping focus heavily on Spider-Man and less on his enemies.
It looks like Jamie Foxx‘s Electro will be the prime target, while Dane DeHaan‘s Harry Osborne and Paul Giamatti‘s Rhino will be smaller subjects that perhaps come to light later as the film progresses.
I’m fine with this build up as long as director Marc Webb knows what he’s doing and doesn’t try to blow his load on giant spectacle with little substance.
The Spider-Man franchise is one of Sony’s biggest and most important franchises and I understand that they want to set this one up for sequels and branch-off films, but that also means that they need to treat this film and its characters with proper care and detailing.
Will The Amazing Spider-Man 2 end up being one of the better movies to kick off the summer or has Sony and its reboot gone off the rails with their second outing?
I guess we’ll find out.
