In what they are calling their “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, director/co-writer Edgar Wright is teaming up again with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the third film in the trilogy, which Wright has revealed will be called The World’s End. Fans of Cornetto ice cream and this group’s penchant for hilarious violence beware, while we don’t know a single thing about the film’s plot, it surely will be very much in the same vein as Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, with proof of that in their explanation of the ice cream references.
Wright says it could also be called the “Three Flavors” trilogy, since Shaun of the Dead featured strawberry flavor, Hot Fuzz featured blueberry, and The Worlds End will feature mint chocolate chip. Some have asked what has taken them so long to get the next film rolling, but it took a few years for them to get Hot Fuzz going, and the schedules of all involved have beefed up the past few years, with Simon Pegg appearing in the Mission: Impossible and Star Trek franchises, Nick Frost appearing in various movies like Pirate Radio and Attack the Block, and Edgar Wright preparing to do Ant Man for Marvel Studios, which is supposed to have a 2014 date, the same as this film, so I suppose we’ll see which one gets before cameras first, and while it would seem Ant Man would win that race since it’s been in development so long, that may be the reason this comes first, if Ant Man continues to sit in development. Maybe this is what he’s doing in the meantime, while the kinks are worked out.
