Five new character posters for David O. Russell’s upcoming film American Hustle have arrived.  Before knowing anything about the film, you can tell just by looking at the posters that the film is set in the 1970s. The film’s outstanding cast, which includes Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Jennifer Lawrence, are featured in noticeable hairdos and outfits that just scream the seventies.

American Hustle centers on an undercover sting operation known as ABSCAM, which was set up by a con artist (Bale) working with an out of control FBI agent (Cooper) along with his mistress and partner in crime (Adams) to bring down a series of corrupt public officials. Check out the posters below.

Official Synopsis:

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting.  Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

By the way, don’t write off this film just yet. After the crazy teaser trailer and the names involved, this has an extremely good chance of showing up at this year’s Oscar race.

American Hustle will be released in limited theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 13th before going wide on December 25th.
