New Blade Runner Screenwriter?

Yet again we are hearing rumors of a possible reboot of the Blade Runner universe.  This news is interesting because Ridley Scott, the man himself, has possible plans to direct this film, leaving Hollywood in a tizzy.  Often, something like this wouldn’t be very believable, but again, the news about Prometheus sounded unbelievable at the time, and that has come to full fruition.  So Ridley definitely is not afraid to mine an old property to find something new in it.

Today, The Film Stage is reporting that the project may have a screenwriter in Scott Z. Burns (The Informant!, Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum) who is reportedly in talks to come on as the new scribe for the project.  Burns has had a bit of a breakout the past few years on the films of Steven Soderbergh, maybe with another good director he can manage to recapture some magic of the Blade Runner universe.  Most can agree that there are other stories to be told in that universe, but at the same time, any script set there has to be very delicate in how it relates to the first film, as we have learned with long gestating sequels that have come to fruition in recent years, like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Are you a fan?  Does this sound like a good fit?  Let us know in the comments below!
