New Behind The Scenes Reel Of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Better get used to seeing Star Wars posts, because the hype train is nearing full speed. The panel for The Force Awakens at San Diego Comic-Con was absolutely brilliant, showcasing the film’s practical effects, and also giving us more information about certain characters. Specifically, we learned a little more about General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). I personally think that the most interesting takeaway from the panel was how Driver described his character’s connections to the dark side:

We didn’t really have a lot of conversations about bad or evil, actually, when we were shooting it…it was more “what do you think is the difference between being bad and being right?”

But the real highlight of the evening was the behind-the-scenes reel shown to the audience at the very end of the panel, focusing on the real sets and practical effects. There’s a lot to take in, from the Millennium Falcon turret simulation, to the now-confirmed return of the gonk droid, to head molds that look remarkably similar to those of Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb from Return of the Jedi. Above all else, the reel confirms the amount of care and passion that has gone into the making of this film. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go ahead and cryogenically freeze myself until Episode VII comes out on December 18, 2015.
