One thing amazing in Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight Trilogy is the character of Alfred, played brilliantly and with emotion by Michael Caine. He really brought it all together in The Dark Knight Rises and proved that the character is much more than a simple butler that cleans up Bruce Wayne’s mess.
Actor Michael Caine recently took to the presses to confirm the film’s ambiguous ending, which really didn’t need any clarification:
They were there… They were real. There was no imagination. They were real and he was with Anne, the cat lady, and I was happy ever after for him as I told him during the picture.”
He then went on to discuss the character and how he originally planned on passing on the role, because he didn’t want to be that guy that did the laundry and offered orange juice. It was only until after he read Nolan’s script when he realized just how important the character was to Batman Begins and the rest of the trilogy.
After that he mentioned that he would love to reprise the role in future Batman outings. So that means we could see him in the Justice League after all:
“I said to Chris, ‘If they do it again and they ask me to be the Butler, I’m going to do it,’ He said, ‘I want 10%.’”
