A Project X sequel could be on the horizon, according to THR. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since Project X opened with $21 million dollars this past weekend, despite several negative reviews (including my own). The film was bound to be a sure-thing and Warner Brothers has writer Michael Bacall (21 Jump Street, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Project X) working on a follow-up treatment.
Nothing is set in stone, but if producers Todd Phillips and Joel Silver like what Bacall has to offer then consider it done. I’m sure they’ll work something out to get the three leading men back for cheap, since The Hangover stars managed to increase their wages after the mega-successful first film.
I see Project X being Warner Brothers new (and cheaper) alternative to The Hangover. Many have mentioned that Part 3 will be the final chapter for The Hangover series, so Project X 2 could pick right up the next year and generate at least 2 sequels. It’s not something I want at all, but it’s all about the masses and how they react.
It’s still too early to tell what is really going to happen. Final box office numbers plus home video sales are going to be the final say.
Are you excited for a sequel to Project X? Did you see the film this past weekend?
