Following her breakout role in the 2011 comedy Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy reteamed with director Paul Feig for this summer’s cop comedy The Heat opposite Sandra Bullock. According to The Wrap, McCarthy will be reuniting with Paul Feig again for a spy action comedy titled Susan Cooper.
Susan Cooper is being developed as a potential franchise starter and will reportedly have the same tone as The Heat. According to the report, Susan Cooper will be a female James Bond. McCarthy is currently negotiating her deal, which could possibly conflict with her schedule for her CBS comedy series Mike & Molly.
Paul Feig has been a huge supporter of female driven films and has publicly commented on the lack of female driven films in the industry. Feig wrote the script and will produce through his Feigco Entertainment banner along with 20th Century Fox.
McCarthy just wrapped Tammy, which she co-wrote with her husband and director Ben Falcone. She is currently filming St. Vincent de Van Nuys with Bill Murray. Check back for more Susan Cooper updates as they come our way.
