I’m not sure why most news sites are passing this off as a legitimate piece of news, but today is sort of slow and I feel like discussing Man of Steel. We now have official word that Zack Synder‘s upcoming Superman reboot will be rated PG-13.
Here’s what for:
intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language.
Synder has been primary known for making bloody R-rated comic-book adaptations, but I’m really doubting anyone was expecting him to make his take on Superman that gritty and grim. The visuals, as usual, look spectacular, but I’m guessing the story will balance that fine line of serious material (see Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Trilogy), while also sticking to the idea of a grown man wearing a spandex suit and flying around with a cape.
Man of Steel is no doubt Synder’s biggest project yet, because judging on how well the film does (critically and financially) will determine what WB wants to do with their Justice League project. It’s coming, but it might be coming quicker and with more talent attached if Synder wins over the fans and takes down the box office.
Man of Steel opens on June 14th, 2013.
