“Magic Mike” Male Stripper Movie Picked up by WB!

Today Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to the exotic male dancer film Magic Mike starring Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer.  The film’s plot centers on a young dancer who is schooled by a veteran of the trade.

Steven Soderbergh directed the film sometime in between  his retirement plans, and now WB has put a June 29th, 2012 date on the film.  The cast also includes Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez, and Kevin Nash, oddly enough.

The script was written by Tatum’s producing partner Reid Carolin and was produced by  his company Iron Horse Entertainment, with financing provided by Tatum and Soderbergh.

Definitely sounds different, and I can’t believe after the success of Showgirls there was never a male exotic dancer movie announced before this one.  With this announcement though, WB seems to stand behind their proven talents, and I’m sure women will go see the film based on the prospect of Channing Tatum naked alone.

What do you think?  Something that maybe you’ll see?
