MacGruber star Will Forte has gone and made my day. That rhymed, but anyways, the star of one of my favorite comedy films of the past decade has gone on to (sort of) confirm the much-anticipated sequel.
Here’s a direct quote from the man himself:
“We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure. Whether we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of MacGruber 2.”
Now, this piece of news can be taken as wishful thinking, since there was no talk about getting a budget together or even getting cast and crew to return, but I’m inclined to think that with today’s movie-making landscape Forte and director Jorma Taccone shouldn’t run into too many problems trying to get this thing into production.
Forte also mentioned Jorma’s Kickstarter idea, which apparently was discussed way before Veronica Mars. Here’s another quote:
“Jorma [Taccone], the MacGruber director, he had the idea to do a Kickstarter like two years ago. He kept saying ‘We should do a Kickstarter’ and we were like ‘Yeah, maybe at some point.’ He’s always ahead of the curve. That’s the lesson you learn — always listen to Jorma.”
I know this might sound absolutely crazy, but MacGruber really is a hilarious comedy that ranks up there pretty damn high. I’ve seen it dozens of times, both in theaters and on Blu-ray and it honestly gets better with each viewing. I initially thought the movie looked pretty awful, but it grew on me quick and has been a constant go-to film for whenever friends ask me for something really funny.
I suggest checking it out if you haven’t already.
Are you excited for the possibility of MacGruber 2 actually happening?
