One of the surprise success stories this summer was the ensemble heist flick Now You See Me directed by Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. The film grossed nearly $300 million worldwide on a budget of only $75 million. It was no surprise that Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate announced earlier this month that they’re moving forward with a sequel.
Now, according to ComingSoon.net, Louis Leterrier will be returning to the director’s chair for the sequel. Leterrier says that sequel plans were in mind all along, which is ballsy considering no one could’ve predicted the success of the first.
“I’m currently, not writing, but we’re coming up with the story, the plot, the everything, the twist and the new characters and everything,” Leterrier said. “It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, I’m very much involved in it. I don’t know if it’s going to be my next movie. I know we want to do it pretty fast but I might be able to do another movie in between.”
It’s currently unclear whether anyone from the cast will be back for the sequel. Scheduling conflicts may be a factor as to whether Mark Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson may reprise their roles. Ruffalo will be busy shooting The Avengers: Age of Ultron for a large portion of next year while Harrelson will be shooting The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
Now You See Me will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 3rd. Make sure to check back for more updates as they come our way.
