Lionsgate will be teaming up with Nu Image to distribute The Big Wedding on October 19th, 2012. The film includes an all-star cast of Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl, Susan Sarandon, Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams and Topher Grace. The film is currently shooting in Connecticut with Justin Zackham (The Bucket List) directing.
I’ll admit that I’m only interested in this film because of Topher Grace and Robin Williams. De Niro has been hit or miss these past few years and I really don’t care about the rest of the cast, but it’s great seeing Grace get some more roles, especially after Take Me Home Tonight didn’t pan out for him, plus Williams was awesome in Worlds Greatest Dad and while I know that was probably a fluke, maybe he can deliver something good in this film? Chances are slim that this turns out to be anything other than garbage, but we can always hope!
I also thought it was odd to see Lionsgate pick this one up since they usually stick to horror or urban Tyler Perry films. Maybe this secretly has a horror twist towards the end involving De Niro slaying his whole family and all of the guests? Who knows and who cares! We won’t be seeing this bad boy until next October! Until then, check out the synopsis!
Written and directed by Justin Zackham (THE BUCKET LIST), the film centers around Don (De Niro) and Ellie (Keaton), a long divorced couple being forced to pretend that they are still happily married at their son’s wedding. Among all of their family and friends, the hoax snowballs into a poignant and raucously funny story about the ties that bind.
