The first images have been released for Joe Lynch’s (Wrong Turn 2, Chillerama) upcoming film Knights of Badassdom, coming soon from IndieVest Pictures (more on them in an upcoming Independent Review column). The film stars Ryan Kwanten (HBO’s True Blood), Peter Dinklage (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Steve Zahn (HBO’s Treme), and Summer Glau (Firefly).
The story follows a group of friends that are into Live Action Role Play, or LARPing, and when Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is dumped by his girlfriend, his nerdy friends Eric (Steve Zahn) and Hung (Peter Dinklage) convince him to come out to their LARPing session. That is, until Eric reads a real spell from a spellbook written by demons, unleashing a savage succubus into the game.
I read the script by Matt Wall and Kevin Dreyfuss, and I must say it’s everything fans are expecting from Lynch in terms of content. It’s a balls out love letter to everything that is fan obsession, slightly mocking the world of LARPing while at the same time making a grand spectacle of it with great admiration. It’s violent, bloody, and fun, and I have full faith that Lynch has knocked it out of the park.
Lynch will be live with some of the cast at the San Diego Comic-Con next weekend in Hall H, and many fans that aren’t already excited for the movie are sure to be blown away. Those that have seen footage speak very highly of it, I personally can’t wait.
With everything looking rosy for this film, the last thing it has to do is find an audience. Do you think it will find one amongst the hardcore fanboys attending SDCC?
