Kevin Feige Says No Avengers Cameos In Iron Man 3

One thing you can credit Marvel for is their ability to bring everything together in The Avengers. Part of that is because of Kevin Feige and his crew of talented individuals that are responsible for planning each and every moment out for each Phase.

Phase One built up our core heroes and brought them together, while Phase Two promises to expand the universe and introduce some more unknown characters. One of the weakest films from Phase One was Iron Man 2, mostly because it tried too hard to cram in so much S.H.I.E.L.D. stuff, while also trying to give Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark a new villain to entertain. Clearly director Jon Favreau wasn’t up for the task and the film sort of stunk up the waters until Thor came along and patched things up, leading into The Avengers.

Now, with the next wave of films underway people are starting to worry about who will appear in which film. Will Iron Man 3 have a Hulk cameo? Producer Kevin Feige goes on record to say no:

Iron Man 3 doesn’t feature any of the other Avengers, or Nick Fury showing up, or any of those world-blending conceits that the Phase One films had. You have to keep in mind that Iron Man 3 had been in the works for almost a year, year and a half before The Avengers was released. We’re sticking to the vision for these films, and showing once again that these characters are just as interesting alone as they are together.

He also notes that Iron Man 3 isn’t super serious like The Dark Knight Rises:

It’s not a serious movie, but we seriously dig into exploring more of Tony. The trick is just trying to make great movies. We try to make them all great, all different and all fresh. What you’ll see in Iron Man 3 is some very unique directions that were taken.

And he touches up on the Iron Patriot:

The notion in the movie is that a red, white and blue suit is a bold statement, and it’s meant to be. With Rhodey, he’s very much the foil to Tony’s eccentricities, and in this one you get to see this and be reminded of the trust and friendship between them in that great Shane Black buddy-cop fashion.

I wouldn’t entirely believe the first statement, because things can be added at the last minute without much fuss.

Iron Man 3 opens on May 3rd, 2013.
