Kevin Costner for Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”?

Today Deadline is reporting that it’s very likely Kevin Costner will end up playing the character of Ace Woody in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which has already built and impressive cast so far counting Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Samuel L. Jackson also appearing in the film.

The role that is said to be under consideration for Costner is that of Ace Woody, the sadistic trainer of the slave fighters that DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie owns and fights for sport as a money-making activity.  Ace is the guy who keeps them all scared so they’ll cooperate, and the character plays a pivotal role in the film.

Most will remember Costner’s first big departure into villain territory with the excellent Mr. Brooks, but with Tarantino behind the camera, this is a much different story.  While Tarantino may be able to pull some of the biggest box office stars of all time into his movies, he never makes a show of it, simply placing an actor he likes with the role he thinks will fit them.

If history is any indication, Tarantino is usually right when it comes to his casting choices, utilizing actors in ways that either they haven’t been used in ever, or at least a very long time.  Would you be excited for Costner to appear in Tarantino’s latest opus?  Or did you have someone else in mind?
