Joss Whedon might be one of the most important figures in comic book movies. He helped Marvel in a big way, “overseeing” most of their early days as they started to build a cinematic universe.
I’m telling you all of this, because Whedon is in talks to direct a solo Batgirl film for DC. This would be a major jump for him and a major win for WB/DC.
Whedon is rumored to want directorial, writing, producing and general creative control over the character and the film, which might help give the DC universe some new light after somewhat dark times.
Is Whedon the savior that DC needs to turn things around? Could he perhaps lend more than a helping hand in sculpting their cinematic universe?
I’m all for Whedon stepping in and giving them a few tips, while also guiding his own film and showing DC that they too can be successful.
There’s no rule saying that only one comic book company can prosper in the film industry. Wouldn’t it be better if both Marvel and DC continued to churn out amazing product and we as audience members were ushered into a new, golden era of film?
I really hope this ends up happening.
