Joseph Gordon-Levitt Officially Leaves Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Just days after posting the first image from Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained set we have news of a key star officially leaving the production. MTV reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will not be appearing in the film due to scheduling reasons.

As some of you may know, JGL is a busy man in Hollywood, currently working on his first directorial effort Don Jon’s Addiction as well as starring in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises and Rian Johnson‘s sci-fi film Looper, both of which are being released later this year.

It’s no surprise that JGL had to step away from the project, but it does kind of suck. Apparently Tarantino fully understood why it just wasn’t going to work out. Here’s a quote from JGL explaining his decision:

“I’ve been in touch with Quentin about it, and it was so cool to trust me to do this little part in his movie, I would have loved, loved to have done it. He’s one of my very favorite filmmakers, and he was really supportive of me directing and that meant the world to me.”

Tarantino’s Django Unchained still stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Kurt Russell, Christoph Waltz and Sacha Baron Cohen. It will be released on December 25th, 2012.
