YES!!! Finally, Marvel commits to bringing back The Punisher.
He’s not going to get his own show or movie though, instead he’ll be debuting in Daredevil Season 2, which makes me more than happy.
I really enjoyed Daredevil Season 1. I loved how well they treated all of the characters and I think seeing The Punisher come back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Season 2 is going to be a big thing.
The Punisher is without a doubt one of Marvel’s most dark characters, presenting a tricky obstacle for them in terms of keeping things on a somewhat same level.
He’s not about saving his enemies and instead chooses to kill versus forgive.
I’ve always been a huge fan of the graphic novels and comics and even liked each film version to an extent.
Thomas Jane‘s 2004 The Punisher had a decent story and a powerful performance by Jane, but felt a little too safe for my tastes.
Ray Stevenson‘s turn in Punisher: War Zone was definitely more my thing, with much more violence and cold vigilante justice, but the over-the-top violence turned off most.
I prefer War Zone, but I don’t hate Jane’s version. Each were very different takes on what seems to be one of Marvel’s hardest characters to crack.
Now, The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal will be tackling the character in Daredevil Season 2, which will be a Netflix exclusive.
I’ll admit that I’m not the biggest Bernthal fan, but I’ll give him and Marvel the benefit of the doubt until I see more.
I was really hoping that Jane or Stevenson would’ve been invited back to the role, but I knew that was a long shot. My personal fan-casting would’ve been Frank Grillo (see The Purge: Anarchy), but his Captain America involvement makes that a no.
Daredevil Season 2 hits Netflix sometime in 2016.
