Whether you liked the film or not, Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland was a box office success. It earned a little over $1 billion in worldwide grosses so obviously a sequel is on its way and will bring back Mia Wasikowska and most recently, Johnny Depp. Deadline has reported that Depp is finalizing a deal to reprise his role as the Mad Hatter in the sequel.
There’s no doubt that Johnny Depp’s star quality was put into question recently after Disney’s The Lone Ranger was a critical and box office bomb. It looks like Disney has not lost hope on Depp as their leading man because not only is he reprising his role as the Mad Hatter and Jack Sparrow, Deadline reports that Depp has also signed a multi-year first look deal at the studio to develop film projects that he can also produce.
This past May, it was announced that The Muppets director James Bobin is going to helm the Alice in Wonderland sequel after he finishes The Muppets Most Wanted. Check back for more updates on the Alice in Wonderland sequel as they come our way.
