Joel Edgerton has recently appeared in high-profile films such as the Oscar-nominated Zero Dark Thirty and the 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Now it appears that Edgerton is in negotiations for a role in another high-profile film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Edgerton is finalizing a deal to join Christian Bale in Ridley Scott’s Biblical epic Exodus.

If Edgerton signs on, he’ll be playing the Egyptian ruler Ramses, while Bale is on board to play Moses. Ridley Scott is directing the film from a screenplay by Oscar-winning screenwriter Steve Zaillian. Production is expected to begin this September, with shooting to take place in Spain, Morocco, and England.

Joel Edgerton reunites with his Warrior director Gavin O’Connor for Jane Got A Gun opposite Natalie Portman. He is also going to star in Jeff Nichols’ sci-fi project Midnight Special.

Exodus is already scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 12th, 2014.
