Joaquin Phoenix In Early Talks For Villain Role In ‘Batman Vs. Superman’

Well this was unexpected. Variety has reported that Oscar winning actor Joaquin Phoenix is in early talks for a role in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman, the sequel to this year’s Man of Steel.

In the report, it’s speculated that Warner Bros. is considering Phoenix for the primary villain role, which is heavily rumored to be Lex Luthor. Nothing has been confirmed yet though, so let the speculation continue. Remember that Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa has joined the film in a possible villainous role so we may see more than one villain in the sequel.

Phoenix, who’s currently in Spike Jonze’s offbeat romance Her, is also considering a role in Sea of Trees, the next film from director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting and Milk). If Phoenix joins the cast, he’ll join the already announced Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne.

UPDATE: Ben Affleck must have some sort of influence on the project as Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio has recently jumped on board to rewrite the script.

Batman vs. Superman will arrive in theaters on July 17th, 2015.
