After he makes a Sex Tape with Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel will star in Sony Pictures’ currently untitled maple syrup heist dramedy. Deadline reports that the studio recently acquired the comedy pitch, which will star Segel and will be directed by Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon. It has been reported that Family Guy writer Chris Sheridan will be writing the script.
The comedy, which will reportedly have “dramatic overtones”, is inspired by real events first reported by the Montreal Gazette in which $20 million worth of maple syrup was stolen last year from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers.
It’s an interesting and quirky premise that might translate well into fictionalized narrative form. Segel next appears in Sex Tape, which stars himself and Cameron Diaz as a couple who go on a frantic search after the sex tape they made goes missing.
