The Avengers: Age of Ultron has cast its villain. Marvel has announced that James Spader will be returning to the big screen as the lead villain Ultron in the highly anticipated sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He has joined the cast that already includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Cobie Smulders. Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are both in final negotiations to appear as The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
Spader, who recently had a scene-stealing role in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning film Lincoln, is certainly a surprising choice to play the villainous Ultron, who has fought the Avengers multiple times since its introduction decades ago. Spader has the intimidating voice that’ll surely make Ultron a menacing character.
James Spader can next be seen on NBC’s new crime drama series The Blacklist, which premieres on September 23rd. Marvel will be releasing the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st, 2015. Make sure to check back for more updates as they come our way. What do you think of the casting choice?
