It looks like we can stop hoping for a non-Avatar film from James Cameron in the near future, aside from the occasional documentary. /Film has reported that Cameron wants to make Avatar 2, 3 and 4, with a few documentary films in between.
He will no longer produce films for others or work on anything else.
That’s awfully boring of him, especially when you remember just how dull the story for Avatar was. The visuals and 3D were real game-changers, but looking back I’m kind of upset at what Avatar did to the 3D landscape.
I was really hoping he’d pump out a sequel to get it out of his system and then he’d move on to do even more creative and original stuff, but I guess that’s never going to happen, at least not until Avatar 4 tanks or something, which won’t happen for another 20 years if he keeps up with his current pace.
Cameron will probably top Terrence Malick for longest delay in between full-length films.
