Now, before I make this statement, let me make it clear that it’s all rumor at this point, so you can direct your grievances here if it turns out to be untrue, but it appears likely that a teaser trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel will have a run before The Dark Knight Rises.
Superman is another DC megastar in a Warner Bros picture, so The Dark Knight Rises would be the absolute perfect place to showcase it. You have the audience you want in the seats already, and you know for a fact there will be millions there to witness the end of the Batman legend, so why not toss the fans some scraps?
I’m not a huge fan of the character, but if there’s one man I trust to do comic movies, it’s Zack Snyder, and that has me excited. Yes, Sucker Punch was terrible, but was it not a visual feast? Snyder is best when he’s working on already established ideas and mythos, which he will be with Man of Steel. His visual style and obsessive commitment to getting the details right is what all directors of these franchises should aspire to. I loved Watchmen and rank it up there with any comic book movie released in the last decade. I will defend it against any comic book nerd, any majority, anywhere, any place, any time. And if you disagree with this, you can pick a number, get in line and kiss my ass.
If there’s one thing studios love, it’s hyping up blockbuster movies way before it’s even possible to begin to build excitement. Although Man of Steel is still way off in the distant future (summer 2013), we have some promo images and other goodies, but no video footage yet. If you don’t plan on being in theaters to see The Dark Knight Rises (and shame on you if you’re not), we’ll have you covered as soon as the trailer hits the web!
