This news is far from fresh in the world of Windows Phone and mobile devices, but we here at The Daily Rotation will be covering Windows Phone a little more extensively from here on out and I thought it would be fitting to start with a little backtracking.
Instagram is one of the most popular apps out there on iOS and Android devices and now, after a long and harsh battle, it will be coming to Windows Phone.
It has long been teased and hinted at, but nothing was official until recently, when it was announced to be released in the “coming weeks”. My guess is that it drops on the 22nd of November, which is when Nokia’s gigantic phablet, the Lumia 1520, hits shelves everywhere for AT&T users.
This announcement is a great achievement for Windows Phone and especially its users, who have been demanding it forever. Popular developer Rudy Huyn went out of his way to release 6tag, which is a fully-featured third party Instagram client, which works quite well and will probably end up out-shining Instagram when it’s all said and done, much like his 6sec app versus the official Vine app.
Rudy’s hard work won’t go without recognition, because many can say that it was his interest in releasing a third party app that really got people seriously considering an app for Windows Phone, which only accounts for a small share of smartphones in the US.
Regardless of which app you end up using, Instagram coming to Windows Phone is big news for Microsoft and its supporters.
