Hugh Jackman is returning to the action genre later this summer in Lisa Joy‘s Reminiscence. Joy’s sci-fi thriller is looking to tap into the almighty power of the past, when a scientist discovers the ability for one to relive their past, which has this (Jackman) particular person looking for a lost love.
I love the post-apocalyptic world that Joy has created here, which looks more in line with a noire flick or something paying major respects to Blade Runner, versus your traditional nuclear wasteland. From the water rising to the trench coats and nightclubs — this is sure to be a distinct visual experience.
I also like that Jackman seems to be sinking his teeth into the role. More Jackman is always a good thing and while I appreciate and respect his time away from the big screen, in which he’s spent working on smaller passion projects, I must say that I welcome his return to the genre and hope that this one hits hard.
I’m a sucker for time manipulation-oriented films and this one has me thinking of The Butterfly Effect very much.
I hope Westworld director/producer Lisa Joy has what it takes to hit this one out of the park.
Reminiscence drops into theaters and also HBO Max this August.
