Everyone loves Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. He’s arguably the most popular X-Men character, both on the comic book pages and on the big screen. What’s not to like about a man with a cool haircut and some razor sharp claws that pop out of his fists? Women dig the chest and guys dig the bad-ass persona that Jackman has fully embodied.
Wolverine was the best part of X-Men and X2, yet he sucked the most in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now, I’m not sure if that’s because the character just works better when teamed up with others or if the director of that film simply had no idea what he was doing with the character.
James Mangold has The Wolverine coming out in July and Jackman has started doing his press rounds. The latest one promise that this film isn’t going to mess up where the previous one did. I’m not sure if he’s simply trying to sell the movie or if he’s being honest.
We all know that Jackman really cares for the character, but sometimes it’s hard for him not to turn down a paycheck, even if the film turns out to be a pointless continuation and nothing more.
Here’s the quote:
I had something to prove, and we could have done better… Somehow the first Wolverine movie ended up looking like the fourth X-Men — just with different characters. I left unsure if we’d achieved our goal, which was to make sure people understood my character.
