Help Get A Behind The Mask Prequel/Sequel/Reboot Started

If you’re a fan of horror in this day and age, more specifically independent horror, then you probably have seen Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Veron. It came out back in 2006 and I don’t believe it got a theatrical release. It might have toured around at some film festivals, but I don’t recall anything in Minnesota. I ended up finding out about it through several horror fans and websites. Lots of people were praising the film and I honestly enjoyed the hell out of it. It’s a horror/ comedy film about the making of a killer. A news group follows around Leslie Vernon as he plots and plans his reign of terror on a fictional town called Glen Echo.

What makes the film work so wonderfully is the star, Nathan Baesel. Behind the Mask was his acting debut into the world of films and boy did he impress. He managed to deliver a two part performance. His first part was that of a friendly, easy going guy that was always super excited and kind of crazy and his second part which was the cold and calculated killer. It was awesome watching him transform on the screen several times. He knew how to mess around and make things excited, but when it came down to his killing he didn’t mess around. His eyes had a cold stare in them that sent shivers down my spine.

I love how the film managed to balance the horror and comedy. It never felt like a spoof or anything too silly. It frequently gave you tons of stuff to laugh at, but at the same time it respected the horror genre and stayed true to it when the killing began. If you haven’t checked out the film yet, then buy the DVD for 13 dollars (Click Here) or the Blu-ray for 11 dollars (Click Here)

Now onto the important business. The director of Behind the Mask, Scott Glosserman has decided to make a sequel/prequel/reboot, but instead of getting funding from a studio (which isn’t likely) he has decided to ask us, the fans! That’s right; all you have to do is head over to the Facebook page and donate whatever you can. If they reach their goal then your donation will act as a preorder for the film. Sounds like a win/win situation if you ask me.

So head on over to the Facebook page by clicking here and donate whatever you can. Help get an independent film off the ground. If this film ends up happening then know that it was partially because of you! The title for the film is going to be Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon or B4TM for short.

I’m excited for this film. I really hope some people put their money where their mouth is and donate to the production of this possible film. Support something you believe in. Hell, I might have to create a Facebook just to donate money to this project!

I would like to thank Devin over at B.A.D. for bringing this bit of news to my attention. Let’s help spread this thing across the internet like wildfire. SHARE this on Twitter, Facebook or whatever the hell you use for social networking. Send the details of this to your grandmother in a letter or page a friend who is still rocking a beeper. People must know of Leslie Vernon!
