‘Hellboy’ Creator Says They’re Rebooting The Franchise

Hellboy is an interesting film property. Comic book creator Mike Mignola has recently went on record to confirm that they’re definitely rebooting the Hellboy franchise and that the R-rated reboot is going to feature Stranger ThingsDavid Harbour as the titular red-horned bad ass.

What makes things more interesting is that The Descent director Neil Marshall will be the visionary behind the new film, which is a drastic change of pace from Hellboy and Hellboy II director Guillermo del Toro.

This is bittersweet news. On one hand, I’m all for an R-rated take on the character and I think that David Harbour could really benefit from such a starring role. On the other hand, it saddens me to know that del Toro and Mignola couldn’t come to an agreement on a third film.

Hellboy II left the series in an interesting place and I would have really loved to see Ron Perlman come back for one more outing.

Are you looking forward to a fresh take on the character or do you feel that they should have left it as-is?
