Maniac Guillermo Del Toro is notorious for the number of projects he is involved in at any one time, and now he has added another to the list with the animated film Day of the Dead. No, it has nothing to do with the George Romero film, or its remake, but instead the Mexican holiday. THR is reporting that the Mexican director will produce the film in conjunction with Reel FX.
The film will be directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, who co-created the Nickelodeon show El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, from a script by El Tigre writer Doug Langdale. The story is said to be a Romeo and Juliet-style love story set in the backdrop of the Mexican holiday. The report also says that music will play a big part in the film, and the producers are seeking top name talent to provide the music.
Reel FX is run by former ILM executive Ed Jones and Walden Media CEO Cary Granat. Del Toro is busy shooting the film Pacific Rim for Legendary Pictures. Reel FX hopes that Day of the Dead will arrive in theaters by Fall 2014.
