Rob Letterman‘s Goosebumps was the sort of soft surprise hit that Sony really capitalized on last year. It made a decent amount of money without ever being considered a runway hit or a worldwide sensation.
It looks like it did good enough business to warrant a sequel, because Sony has officially confirmed one, with Jack Black all but confirmed to come back. They’ve also started to close deals on bringing back Letterman as the director, plus the original film’s writer.
I dug Goosebumps. I grew up with the property and was worried how they were going to handle the film. Letterman managed to direct a film that’s both a kids story and a horror film.
It’s scary enough when it needs to be, yet it also has no time focusing on the kids of the film, thanks to the excellent performances from the entire cast.
I’m curious to see what other characters and stories that they explore in the sequel, which will probably be here quicker than you can imagine.
Here’s to hoping for another October release.
