Right now on the HBO series Girls, Adam played by, um, Adam Driver just got a big Broadway gig that’ll surely launch his career. Now, the same storyline is happening to Adam Driver in reality as Variety reports that the actor is finalizing a deal to portray the antagonist in Star Wars: Episode VII.
Of course, details on the character and the storyline are unknown. All we can do is speculate. Sources say the villain will be in the same vein as the iconic Darth Vader. Although Driver didn’t seem like an obvious choice for a villainous role, especially in such a huge project such as this, the prospect is certainly exciting.
As you may recall, Driver was rumored for a role back in January but it was dismissed as a rumor. Now it seems like this is the first confirmed casting announcement. It’s been reported that he won the role over Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving, which immediately leads me believe that he must’ve wowed J.J. Abrams and co. to get the role.
According to the report, there was a delay in making a decision due to scheduling issues with Star Wars and HBO’s Girls. Sources revealed that it wasn’t just season 4 of the hit HBO series that was the hang-up, but actually future seasons as well, which indicates that Driver will be appearing in more than one sequel. According to Variety’s sources, the scheduling conflicts have been resolved.
J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan wrote Star Wars: Episode VII and will begin announcing casting decisions in the very near future as production is expected to begin in London in April.
