Hollywood is an interesting place, one where remakes and reboots seem to be more common than actual original ideas. A new concept is taking a familiar property and swapping the genders. Paul Feig tried this with Ghostbusters, which did not fail because of its well-selected and talented cast of ladies, but instead with its lack of originality.
Now, Gary Ross is going to try his hand at re-creating Steven Soderbergh‘s Ocean’s trilogy. This time, with an all-female leading cast, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helen Bonham Carter.
It’s not that these ladies don’t seem to be up to the task of out-Oceaning an Ocean’s film, it’s the fact that Soderbergh isn’t in the director’s chair and that I don’t believe Ross can come up with a clever-enough heist.
Also, why not just make your own heist movie? Is there going to be a reason for the connection to the original Ocean’s trilogy?
I certainly hope so.
