Gary Oldman Joins ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’

Casting has been underway in the last couple weeks for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the upcoming sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. As you may already know, Andy Serkis is set to reprise his motion-captured role as Caesar. Actors Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee have joined Serkis within the last week. The cast keeps on growing as Coming-Soon reports that Oscar-nominated actor Gary Oldman has officially signed on for a leading role.

Set 15 years after the events of the first film, most of humanity has been wiped out and intelligent apes are ruling over the world. It’s been reported that part of the film’s focus is on a group of scientists that form a resistance against the apes. The other part of the film’s focus is on Caesar as he tries to maintain order and power within the new civilization.

It’s rumored that Gary Oldman’s character will be the leader of the human colony. No specific details has been uncovered as of yet. Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves is set to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The sequel starts filming this spring with a May 23rd, 2014 release in mind. I’m sure we’ll be receiving more news on casting in the very near future.
