Gareth Edwards was responsible for directing one of the best original indie sci-fi films of 2010 titled Monsters. It was such an intense journey of a film that blended in sci-fi almost effortlessly into the background story. The monsters acted as the backdrop of the film, with the human interactions being the main focus and I applaud Edwards for gracefully accomplishing such an achievement of a film. Monsters is both a captivating character drama and a full-fledged monster movie, just not in the more traditional sense.
I’m glad to hear that he’s in charge of Warner Bros. Godzilla reboot, which is being described as much darker version of the giant monster, with destruction and hopelessness around every corner. The film sounds like an excellent opportunity for him to really get his name out there in front of a big audience.
The studio recently released a press release stating that the film will be making its way to theaters on May 16th, 2014 and it will be presented in 3D. I’m not sure if they plan on filming it in 3D or post-converting, but I’m sure we’ll catch wind of that as we gear closer to production.
Are you excited to see another take on such an iconic character? I think the world is in need of a little monster mayhem on a big scale.
