Shane Carruth is the brilliant mind behind one of the best science fiction (more specifically time travel) films ever made; Primer. I’ve seen that film maybe two or three times and I’m still chewing on it, constantly going back and questioning things or more-or-less trying to understand things. Primer isn’t as well-known as it should be and that kind of sucks, but hopefully the release of his newest movie means more people will actively seek it out.
Upstream Color is the name of his latest and I’d rather not reveal much (or any) of its plot. His films are best experienced that way, so if you absolutely NEED to know everything about it I suggest you search the web, because I will not be spoiling a single second of it.
Well not directly. This new full-length trailer could count as spoilers, but he cuts his trailers so well, always walking that line of revealing something big, yet mostly keeping us in the dark.
What we can tell you is that Upstream Color looks gorgeous and is certainly coming from a much more personal Carruth. He’s also co-starring in the film too.

Upstream Color is scheduled to open in New York on April 5th and then in L.A. a few weeks later, followed by a digital release and VOD. I sure hope a theater in Minneapolis picks this one up fast, because I’m dying to see it.
Also, last bit of news is the announcement that Carruth is going to start working on his next film, The Modern Ocean. That should begin production this summer.
