The first teaser trailer/brief look at Judd Apatow‘s sort-of sequel to Knocked Up, titled This Is 40, was kind of a letdown. Instead of being funny and charming it was sort of depressing and pathetic. I’m a big fan of Apatow’s previous films (even Funny People), but This Is 40 just looks like a man sulking in his own success.
This new trailer (via Yahoo) is a little more cheerful and happy-go-lucky, but it still has troubles getting some genuine laughs out of me. I laughed maybe once for Paul Rudd, but I did laugh pretty hard for Drive‘s Albert Brooks.
This Is 40 might be proof that Apatow should stick to producing stuff like Bridesmaids and Girls and maybe not step behind the camera unless he has a great idea for a film that doesn’t involve promoting his wife Leslie Mann.
Jason Segel and Megan Fox also star in the film, which opens on December 21st, 2012.
