Director Tim Burton heads back into the field of animation, where he has done well before with the films Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, although both of those were directed by Henry Selick. This is the first one where Burton has actually directed, and it’s fitting, as the original short film Frankenweenie was the film that got Burton noticed in the 1980’s while working as a concept artist for Disney. Here, he returns to the mouse house for the feature version. This one will be in 3D, like Coraline, which found success despite it’s rather dark nature for a family film.
The film stars the voice work of Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Martin Short, longtime Burton collaborators all. Disney is priming the film for an October 5th, 2012 release, just in time to grab Halloween-geared audiences both young and old. If you still aren’t sold on the concept, Disney has released the first trailer for the film, so you can decide for yourself.
