Since the announcement of The Fantastic Four reboot, many have been curious as to who would be cast as the titular superhero team. Over the past few months, That Awkward Moment stars Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan have been circling the roles of Reed Richard/Mr. Fantastic and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, respectively.
After a final rewrite of the script, it looks like Fox has officially assembled a fantastic bunch (pun most definitely intended). According to Variety, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan are both nearing final deals as they’re joined by Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell (star of the upcoming AMC show Turn) as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Now, there’s been a lot of flack over the casting choices. I think Fox clearly know what they’re doing by casting these undoubtedly talented younger actors. After all, this will be a reboot and, according to the report, it will be based on the comic, The Ultimate Fantastic Four, a contemporary update that will focus on the younger versions of the characters.
The only question mark about the casting is Miles Teller. I’m not questioning his acting ability because, like Jordan, he’s a future A-list star. However, he will be gearing up to reprise his role as Peter in Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, during the same time frame that The Fantastic Four plans to shoot. It’s been reported that Teller is trying to figure out his schedule with Summit Entertainment. If that doesn’t work out, then Fox may have to quickly find someone else to fill in as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic.
Josh Trank, who directed the impressive found footage superhero flick Chronicle will be directing from a script by Simon Kinberg (Jumper and X-Men: Days of Future Past). Matthew Vaughn and Gregory Goodman will be serving as producers.
The Fantastic Four will arrive in theaters on June 19th, 2015.
