It seems like everyone is trying to milk old series these days. The latest news from The Film Stage is that Mike Myers will be returning for a fourth Austin Powers film, 9 years after Austin Powers in Goldmember was released.
This doesn’t really come as shocking news since Myers hasn’t really had much success besides lending his voice to the Shrek series. He tried live action with The Cat in the Hat and The Love Guru, both of which failed. He also had a brief stint in Inglourious Basterds, which was good, but nothing too memorable. I won’t lie, I liked the first three Austin Powers films, but I haven’t watched them in ages. I’m not sure if they would hold up at all watching them now as opposed to back when they originally came out. The series was stupid and fun, but I sort of liked that about it.
That being said, I don’t really want to see a fourth film, but it doesn’t look like we have much of a choice. I figured Myers was going to try and revive the series, but I can’t believe it’s taken him this long.
Does anyone really care about Austin Powers anymore?
