Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot might be single-handedly responsible for saving the DC-U, bringing us a fresh and exciting take on a character that smashed her way into cinemas in Zack Snyder‘s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The character was already solidified as a bad ass in BvS, but she went on to become the beacon of hope, a shining bright light for the DC franchise in Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman still holds up extremely well as a near-perfect comic book movie that blows most of Marvel’s output out of the water and puts most of DC’s films to shame, aside for maybe The Dark Knight and Watchmen.
Naturally, this means that the world was set on fire when Jenkins confirmed her return for the sequel, as well as the title reveal, which is that of Wonder Woman 1984.
This means a new and exotic world for Jenkins and Gadot to explore, not to mention some reflective subtext on the status of America and the world in the 1980’s.
This also somehow means the return of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and the introduction of Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig.
I’m not trying to read too much into this film or its characters, because I’d rather save as much of this film as possible.
Which leads me to this absolutely awesome first trailer, chalked full of visual beauty and story progression in a way that doesn’t spill all of the beans, but gets us ready for what is surely to come.
Wonder Woman rides a freaking lighting bolt, not to mention splits a bullet clean in half.
GIVE ME THIS MOVIE NOW PLEASE.
